Using black light paint11/18/2023 ![]() ![]() Motion blur can be a problem in low light. A lens with a wide maximum aperture is also helpful in low light – the best portraits lenses tend to have fast apertures are ideal. ![]() A tripod or monopod lets you drop your shutter speed down as low as 1/30 sec – shooting any slower increases the risk of motion blur in your subject.Ī camera with decent low-light performance enables you to capture usable shots at high ISOs – often necessary when shooting under the low output of UV lighting. UV lights typically have quite a low output, so you might need to lower your shutter speed in order to get a usable shot. The brand that we used and recommend is Moon Glow body paint. As well as normal paints, you can also find mascara, nail varnish, hair spray and more. Phosphorescent body paint can be bought online (search for UV Body Paint). Cheaper ultraviolet lights and bulbs are available online, too. We used two UV LED battens to illuminate our paints and subject, which were hired from a party company. Ultraviolet light causes the pigments in phosphorescent paint to glow. So if you want your object to glow brightly and for a long time in the dark, we recommend using a blacklight.(Image credit: James Paterson / Digital Camera World) This is because blacklights emit ultraviolet light, the best type of light for activating phosphors. While phosphorescent paint can glow in the dark without a blacklight, it will not be as bright as if you were to use a blacklight. With these tips, you should be able to make anything glow without using a blacklight! Why using a blacklight is better? However, remember that this isn't an ideal charge method because the lightbulb in the flashlight will eventually die, leaving your object in the dark.
